2010 Rumpke Holiday Collection Schedule

Effective
June 1, 2009, the City of Jeffersontown will
begin service with its new sanitation provider Rumpke.
The change in service was awarded through a sealed bid process and
voted upon by the Jeffersontown City Council on May 4, 2009.
The residents of Jeffersontown will
notice the following changes:
resident to contact Rumpke 24 hours in advance to request
a bulk item pick-up.

For
collection of large items (such as mattresses, couches and
chairs), contact Rumpke 24-hours in advance to request a bulk
item pick-up.

Yard
waste will be collected one (1) time per week. Residents can
utilize 30-35 gallon cans or (1) of the 95 gallon cans provided
by Rumpke. Cans should clearly be labeled "YARD
WASTE", 30-35 gallon paper or plastic yard waste bags will
also be accepted.

Recycling
will be collected one (1) time every two (2) weeks. Rumpke will
provide each resident one (1) 65 gallon forest green hinged lid
wheeled cart labeled "Rumpke Recycling" on the side.
Recycling will be expanded to include:
GLASS
ACCEPTABLE: Clear, brown, green and blue glass bottles and jars
in which food products are packaged. Labels do not need to
be removed, please rinse.
NOT ACCEPTABLE: Plastic or metal lids, drinking glasses, light
bulbs, broken glass or windowpanes.
PAPER
ACCEPTABLE:

White
Paper: computer or copy paper; white paper tables, adding
machine tape

Folders:
manila or colored
-
Mail:
letters, brochures, advertisements, magazines up to one inch
thick

Correspondence:
legal pads, white or color, "sticky notes", index
cards, faxes

Envelopes:
with windows or labels, colored and coated

Cardboard:
broken down, 2' x 2'

Other:
brown envelopes, egg cartons, brown grocery bags, telephones
books

Newspaper:
includes inserts

Paperboard:
cereal, cake mix, cracker boxes, beverage boxes, gift boxes
NOT ACCEPTABLE:
Pizza boxes, milk cartons, wax coated beverage containers, paper
plates and cups, napkins or facial tissue, books, hard cover or
paperback, styrofoam egg cartons.
METAL
ACCEPTABLE:
Aluminum and bi-metal beverage cans,
steel
food/tin cans, empty aerosol cans.
Labels do not need to be removed, please rinse and flatten
NOT
ACCEPTABLE: Paint cans, coat hangers, steel scrap,
household batteries.
PLASTIC
ACCEPTABLE:
All plastics marked clearly marked with the numbers #1 through
#7, examples include:

- Soft drink, water and beer bottles; mouthwash bottles;
peanut butter containers; salad dressing and vegetable oil
containers; ovenable food trays.

- Milk jugs, juice bottles; bleach, detergent and household
cleaner bottles; shampoo bottles; some trash and shopping
bags; motor oil bottles; butter and yogurt tubs; cereal box
liners.

- Window cleaner and detergent bottles, shampoo bottles,
cooking oil bottles, clear food packaging, wire jacketing,
medical equipment, siding, windows, piping.

- Squeezable bottles; bread, frozen food, tote bags.

- Some yogurt containers, syrup bottles, ketchup bottles,
caps, straws, medicine bottles.

- Disposable plates and cups, meat trays, egg cartons,
aspirin bottles, compact disc cases.

- Three- and five-gallon water bottles, 'bullet-proof'
materials, sunglasses, DVDs, iPod and computer cases, signs
and displays, certain food containers, nylon.
NOT ACCEPTABLE:
Bottle caps or styrofoam, margarine or desert tubs, plastic bags
of any type, motor oil containers, fast food containers and
cups.
